Privacy Policy for Chuiko
Last Updated: February 7, 2026
TL;DR
We don't collect anything. Your data stays on your computer and local network. Period.
1. Introduction
Andrew Beresford ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy applies to the Chuiko macOS application.
Unlike most apps, Chuiko is designed with privacy as a core principle. We don't collect, store, transmit, or process any of your personal data.
2. Data Collection - What We Don't Collect
The App does NOT collect, store, or transmit any personal information or user data.
We do NOT collect:
- Personal information (name, email, address, phone number)
- Usage data or analytics
- Device information or identifiers
- Location data
- Camera footage or video content
- Network information (beyond what's needed for local connections)
- Browsing history or app usage patterns
- Diagnostic or crash reports (unless you manually send them)
- Cookies or tracking data
- Any other personal or non-personal information
We do NOT use:
- Analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.)
- Crash reporting services (Sentry, Crashlytics, etc.)
- Advertising networks or trackers
- Telemetry or usage monitoring
- Third-party SDKs or frameworks that collect data
- Social media integrations
- Cloud services or remote servers
3. Local Network Access
The App requires local network access to function, but this does NOT involve data collection or transmission to us.
What local network access is used for:
- Discovering your UniFi Protect controller via Bonjour/mDNS on your local network
- Connecting to your controller's local REST API over HTTPS (typically port 443)
- Streaming live video from your cameras via RTSP over TLS (typically port 7441)
Important facts:
- All communication happens exclusively on YOUR local network
- Nothing is sent to external servers, the internet, or us
- We never see, access, or have any knowledge of your network activity
- Your network traffic never leaves your local network
- The App works completely offline (no internet required)
4. Video & Camera Data
Your camera footage and video streams:
- Remain entirely on your local network
- Are streamed directly from your cameras to your Mac
- Are NEVER uploaded, stored, or transmitted by the App to external servers
- Are NEVER seen, accessed, or collected by us
- Stay under your complete and exclusive control
- Are processed only on your local device
We have zero access to your camera footage. We couldn't see it even if we wanted to.
5. Credentials & Authentication
Your UniFi Protect username and password:
- Are stored only in your Mac's Keychain (Apple's secure credential storage system)
- Are never transmitted to us or any third party
- Are only used to authenticate with YOUR local UniFi Protect controller
- Are protected by macOS Keychain encryption and access controls
- Are never logged, cached, or stored in plain text
- Remain under Apple's security controls, not ours
We never see, store, or have access to your credentials.
6. Settings & Preferences
App settings and preferences (popup position, notification preferences, etc.):
- Are stored locally on your Mac using standard macOS UserDefaults
- Never leave your computer
- Are not accessible to us or any third party
- Are automatically deleted if you uninstall the App
- Contain no personal information
7. Diagnostic Logs (Optional & User-Initiated Only)
If you experience technical issues, you may CHOOSE to send us diagnostic logs for troubleshooting. This is entirely optional and requires manual action on your part.
What diagnostic logs MAY contain:
- ✅ macOS version and system information
- ✅ App version and build number
- ✅ Error messages and stack traces
- ✅ UniFi controller connection details (hostname or IP address only)
- ✅ Timestamp information
- ✅ Network configuration details (local network only)
What diagnostic logs do NOT contain:
- ❌ Video footage or camera recordings
- ❌ Personal information (name, email, etc.)
- ❌ Usernames or passwords
- ❌ Keychain data
- ❌ Browsing history
- ❌ Any sensitive personal data
How we handle diagnostic logs:
- You must manually export and send them via email - nothing is automatic
- Logs are received via email to chuiko.support@beez.ly
- Logs are stored securely on our email server
- Logs are used ONLY to troubleshoot and resolve your specific issue
- Logs are permanently deleted after your issue is resolved (typically within 30 days)
- Logs are never shared with third parties
- Logs are never used for marketing, analytics, or any other purpose
- You can request deletion of your logs at any time by emailing us
How to send diagnostic logs:
The App includes an "Export Debug Logs" feature in Settings that creates a text file on your Mac. You manually attach this file to an email and send it to us. Nothing is sent automatically.
8. Third-Party Services
The App does NOT use any third-party services, SDKs, analytics platforms, or integrations.
The App connects ONLY to:
- Your local UniFi Protect controller (on your network)
- Your local UniFi cameras (on your network)
There are no:
- Analytics services
- Advertising networks
- Cloud storage providers
- External APIs or web services
- Social media integrations
- Payment processors (payments handled by Apple)
The App is completely self-contained and local-only.
9. Apple App Store
If you purchase the App through the Apple Mac App Store:
- Your payment is processed by Apple, not us
- Apple collects payment and account information according to their privacy policy
- We receive only aggregate sales data from Apple (number of sales, revenue)
- We do NOT receive your personal information, payment details, or Apple ID
Review Apple's Privacy Policy: https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/
10. Children's Privacy
The App does not collect data from anyone, including children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA).
Since we collect no data whatsoever, there is no risk to children's privacy. The App is safe for users of all ages from a data collection perspective.
However, the App is designed for monitoring security cameras and may display video footage that is not appropriate for children. Parental discretion is advised.
11. International Data Transfers
Since we don't collect any data, there are no international data transfers.
Your data stays on your Mac and local network. It never leaves your physical location.
12. Data Retention
Since we don't collect any data, we have nothing to retain.
The only exception is optional diagnostic logs, which are:
- Sent voluntarily by you
- Retained only as long as needed to resolve your issue
- Deleted within 30 days or upon request
13. Your Rights
Under various data protection laws (GDPR, CCPA, etc.), you have rights regarding your personal data. However, since we don't collect any personal data, these rights are largely not applicable.
For the sake of completeness:
- Right to Access: Since we don't collect data, there is no data to access.
- Right to Deletion: Since we don't collect data, there is no data to delete. (Exception: If you sent diagnostic logs, you can request their deletion at any time.)
- Right to Correction: Since we don't collect data, there is no data to correct.
- Right to Portability: Since we don't collect data, there is no data to export.
- Right to Object: Since we don't collect data, there is nothing to object to.
- Right to Restrict Processing: Since we don't process data, there is nothing to restrict.
If you sent us diagnostic logs and want them deleted, email chuiko.support@beez.ly.
14. Data Security
Since we don't collect, transmit, or store any user data on our servers, there is no data for us to secure on our end. This is the most secure approach possible.
Your data security is handled by:
- Your local network security (firewall, router security, etc.)
- Your Mac's built-in security features (FileVault, Gatekeeper, etc.)
- Apple's Keychain encryption for stored credentials
- macOS security and access controls
Best practices for your security:
- Keep your Mac and macOS updated
- Use a strong password for your Mac account
- Enable FileVault disk encryption
- Secure your local network with strong Wi-Fi passwords
- Keep your UniFi Protect controller updated
- Use strong passwords for your UniFi account
15. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Given our no-data-collection approach, changes are unlikely unless required by law or if we add features.
If we make changes:
- We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top
- Material changes will be communicated via app update notes
- Your continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of the updated policy
We will never change our core principle: no data collection.
16. Legal Bases for Processing (GDPR)
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA):
Since we don't collect or process personal data, GDPR obligations related to data processing do not apply to most of the App's functionality.
The only potential processing is:
- Optional diagnostic logs: Processed based on your consent (you voluntarily send them)
- Legal basis: Consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a))
You can withdraw consent at any time by requesting deletion of your diagnostic logs.
17. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
For California residents:
Since we don't sell personal information and don't collect personal information in any systematic way, most CCPA obligations do not apply.
We do not:
- Sell personal information
- Share personal information with third parties for marketing
- Collect personal information through the App
- Build user profiles or track users
The only exception is optional diagnostic logs, which you voluntarily send for support.
